“Smart” TGIF@SMF with RHB for “Smart” Businesses

The SMF held the October edition of TGIF@SMF with RHB on 25 October 2019 for business owners who wanted to know how to put the “smart” into their business.

Titled “Smart Thinking for Smart Businesses”, members got to hear from industry experts on how to put the ‘Smart’ into their business. 


Republic Polytechnic (RP)’s Assistant Programme Chair for Diploma in Engineering Design with Business, Mr Eugene Tham, shared ways to boost workplace productivity with Robotic Process Automation (RPA). This automation was achieved through bots, which are essentially software with AI and machine learning capabilities. Actions such as opening files, inputting data, copying and pasting fields, calculating, recording and transaction maintenance works on RPA.

Beside Mr Eugene Tham, Head of Enterprise Business from Samsung Electronics Singapore, Mr Timothy Tan talked about the digital revolution in the manufacturing sector where he envisioned a future of manufacturing that was powered by an all-mobile computing strategy without disrupting productivity. This technology would allow team members to dock their phones for desktop work, and access functions such as Microsoft Office, OneDrive and gallery sync. Lastly, Mr Andrew Pang from Design Business Chamber Singapore shared tips on how to do something tangible today to rethink and reshape the business model of the organisation for a better tomorrow.

Special highlights included interesting “Smart” games where participants got to test their focus and reflexes. They were also treated to a delicious and well-balanced BBQ meal paired with networking and hearty conversations.
